I must admit that I am a grocery store junkie.

I know it’s a little weird, and maybe a bit rare…but I love going to the grocery store.

Call me a food nerd, but I have some very specific dietary needs and love the thrill of finding new products that work for my family and me. I also like finding the healthiest and convenient foods possible for my busy clients.

My realization after years of working with clients is that not everyone loves the grocery store the way I do. In fact, most people tell me they hate it!

So, I have created a phenomenal healthy grocery list for you which includes all of my favorite products from Trader Joe’s. I will continue to do the same with other grocery stores in my area over the next few months on my blog, but you can use this shopping list as a guide for any grocery store.

#1 Mistake to Avoid when Shopping with your Healthy Grocery List

Thinking that all foods in a more natural grocery store are healthy.

Don’t fall into this trap! A gluten-free Oreo at Wholefoods is just as full of sugar as the original kind.

Label reading, which is a skill you learn in my programs, is a huge part of understanding which items in a grocery store are health promoting and which ones are health diminishing.

Trader Joe’s is a store I frequent maybe once or twice a month because it isn’t very close to my house. They have a ton of great products at very affordable prices, so when I go, I like to stock up on the following products:

Healthy Grocery List (Trader Joe’s)

Nuts, Seeds, and Dried Fruit
Be aware of sugar content in the aisle… it adds up quick

  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Just Mango Slices (no sugar)
  • Organic Coconut Flakes

Oils
Good for cooking & salad dressings

  • Olive Oil Spray
  • Olive Oil
  • Avocado Oil

Frozen

  • Organic Brown Rice

Produce

  • Organic Broccoli Slaw
  • Salad Blends
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables (Choose what you like and also check out what’s in season.)

(Simple Recipe: Slightly Blanche the Organic Broccoli Slaw then add apple sticks and vinaigrette to make a slaw.)

Cans, Jars, and Cartons

  • All Fruit Strawberry Fruit Spread (Goes great with their Mixed Nut Butter on Gluten Free bread or plantain chips)
  • Organic, Unsweetened Apple Sauce
  • Mixed Nut Butter
  • Organic Vegetable Broth
  • Coconut Aminos (Use as you would Soy Sauce; good for cooking, dipping, and sauteing)
  • Organic Coconut Cream
  • Pineapple Salsa

Grains
Keep these on hand for quick, easy to make sides

  • Organic Rice
  • Organic Brown Rice and Quinoa Noodles
  • Quinoa

Keep in Mind…

Every grocery store is different!

I don’t spend all day going to several different stores; however, I do like certain products at each one and spread them over of the week.

The trick is to stock up on those products you like when you go to that particular store like I do at Trader Joe’s.

Let me know what your favorite grocery store is and why! I’ve traveled all over the world and since I love checking out new products, I’m familiar with most stores.
